DESCRIPTION: Empathy interviews are a critical investigation tool for understanding the lived experiences of students with disabilities, families, and educators beyond what compliance data can show. This one-hour session introduces how empathy interviews can surface barriers, strengths, and unmet needs within special education systems, while modeling trauma-informed questioning and listening practices. Participants will learn how to use these insights to refine problem statements, improve service delivery, and support more inclusive, student-centered SPED practices.
OBJECTIVES: Conduct empathy interviews using trauma-informed, inclusive questioning. Identify key themes and barriers impacting SPED experiences. Use insights to improve student-centered special education practices.
